Page 15 - Mousy Mouse Has a Bad Day
P. 15
But instead of running like they had, Mousy walked across the barnyard to the house. Instead of squeezing through the crack in the kitchen wall, she boldly walked through the partially opened outside door. Instead of scrambling up the kitchen table leg, Mousy climbed it very slowly.
“Well I’ll be darned,” I remarked to myself, “This mouse may be on to something.”
I had been watching the whole day from up in the barn loft. Now I could see Mousy just as well as all of the other mice as she went about getting some of the cheese. At this point I was thinking to myself, “Better smart than fast.” But I am getting a little ahead of the story.
All of the mice watched this event without saying a word. Then they saw Mousy on top of the table. She walked slowly to the cheese and picked up half of the block of cheese. She crossed the table and with the cheese in her hands, jumped from the tabletop to a chair and from the chair to the floor.
Then to everyone’s surprise, Mousy came out to the kitchen’s outside door and slowly walked across the barnyard with the cheese in her hands. The chickens and rabbits looked on with amazement.
