Page 20 - Mousy Mouse Has a Bad Day
P. 20

Mousy made herself upset because others had nicer shoes and clothes. But you also noticed how Mousy got herself upset because of someone else’s OPINION. An opinion is something someone else believes, whether it is true or not.
From what I understand, in olden days, people thought the world was flat. That was their opinion. But all us birds who could fly high in the sky, knew the world was round. We could see how it curved. That was a fact. Unfortunately, you people have never learned how to ask us about stuff. So we just let you go on with your “flat” opinion until you finally figured out that the world is round.
You saw that same type of Stinky Thinking with Mousy. It was Helen’s opinion that having a used carriage was dumb. Until Helen’s comment, Mousy was thrilled with the carriage. Everyone else also thought it was great. Except for the opinion of Helen, Mousy could have really enjoyed the carriage. But Mousy let Helen’s opinion influence her and she let her own Stinky Thinking spoil her excitement about the carriage. It was not Helen’s comment but rather, Mousy’s thinking that caused Mousy’s unhappiness.
1. What was Mousy thinking when she first saw the new carriage? How was she feeling?
2. All of her friends thought the carriage sounded great but then something happened, what was it?
3. After Helen’s comment about “used,” what was Mousy telling herself about the carriage?
