Page 21 - Mousy Mouse Has a Bad Day
P. 21
In another part of the story, you learned that Mousy wanted to make an A+ on her spelling test. Nothing wrong with that! She even studied very hard. Nothing wrong with that!
But then what happened? Her “want to” make an A+ became a “have to” or “must” make an A+. And that dear reader is when she got herself into trouble. She could no longer be satisfied with doing her best or even making a good grade. Now, nothing but an A+ was good enough.
This situation reminds me of a friend of mine, Craig Crow. He would say that he wanted to be the fastest crow. He would practice and practice. And he did in fact become the fastest crow anyone had ever seen. But then he started saying he was the fastest bird and trained harder and harder. But no matter how hard he worked, he was no match for even the slowest hawk or eagle. Most doves, swallows and even mocking birds were faster. Do you know that Craig made himself so disappointed that he quit trying to be a good flyer? In fact, he is now so slow that even I can fly faster than him.
1. Mousy wanted to make a 100% on the spelling test but instead, she made a 95%. What did she tell herself on the way home? How was she feeling?
2. What is something different Mousy could have told herself about her grade?
3. Which of those statements (1 or 3) is more truthful?
4. If she told herself your (3) statement, how would she be feeling.
