That afternoon, while sitting in the chair looking at her collard green garden, the Young Girl heard a cackling laughter behind her. She turned and looked in the direction of the sound. She shaded her eyes from the sun and saw me sitting on the edge of the roof of her house, looking down at her. “Who are you laughing at?” she demanded.
“Why, you of course,” I replied. Confused, she asked me why I would be laughing at her. I flew down and landed on the back of her chair. “I’ve been here on your farm ever since you moved in. I have seen and heard everything that has occurred in your garden and I have just one question. When are you going to plant some tomatoes and onions and okra and melons in this garden?”
The young girl replied, “I want to plant those things but you heard them. If I change things the Rabbit would not have anything to eat and he would have to move. The Owl, who is very smart, told me that all the plants would die and I would starve. And that Bull would be very angry if I dug up the collards and I’m afraid of what he might do.”
