Page 21 - SB-Collard Green Garden
P. 21
The second character the Young Girl meets is the Owl. He tries to get her to do what he wants (not change the garden), by telling her that she is not smart enough to grow a garden. He says that if she tries to change it, everything will die and she will starve. This confuses the Young Girl. She has never made a garden, so she has some doubt. But the real reason the Owl wants it to stay the same is because of the mice.
There are those who would have you believe that they know everything and that you must do as they say. But they may not have your best interest at heart. If you do what they want, then you are at their mercy. You have to be willing to evaluate situations and then make decisions. If you tell yourself that others must make decisions for you, then you are subject to their peer pressure.
1. What did the Owl say to the girl when he found out that she planned to change the garden?
2. What did the girl think after the Owl told her she was stupid and everything would die?
3. What emotions did she feel after the Owl told her what would happen if she changed the garden?
4. What was her behavior toward changing the garden?
