It is easy to be truthful when being truthful will get you praise but you will be less likely to be truthful if you may get fussed at or punished. You will be less likely to be truthful if others will make fun of you for being truthful. Being truthful is often very difficult.
Terry had “Honest Blue” with him most of the time and when “Blue” would say that Terry was being untruthful, Terry would handle it very well. Instead of getting angry, he would say, “Blue is right. I am sorry, I was being untruthful.” It would be nice if we all had a “Honest Blue” riding on our back to keep us truthful.
Just as with many of us, when Terry was really concerned about the consequences of his not studying, he was prepared to be untruthful. Then he had to avoid his friend Blue for fear that his father might ask about the test. Because Blue is always truthful, Terry would then be in big trouble.
I am sure you understand, Terry might lose a very important friendship (with Blue) because he was willing to be untruthful to avoid punishment.
