DOUBLE FISHERMAN’S KNOT

               Purpose

Use this knot as a stronger and more secure alternative to the basic fisherman’s
knot (pages 34–35). As such, it is better suited to smooth synthetic cordage as

               well as thin monofilaments.

               Tying
Bring the two lines together, parallel, with ends pointing in opposite directions.

Tie a double overhand knot with one end around the adjacent standing part
(figure 1). Tie an identical knot (that is, of the same handedness) with the other

end around its nearby standing part and pull the two knots together (figures 2–3).

               Knot lore

Anglers know this knot as a grinner knot, presumably because of the gaping

mouth that can be created between the two knots prior to pulling them shut.
