DOUBLE SHEET BEND




               Purpose

               This is the reinforced knot hinted at by Stuart Grainger in his cautionary verse
               (see  the  previous  page),  for  use  when  a  common  sheet  bend  might  have  a

               tendency to slip or spill. It is similar in design to the double bowline (page 74).




               Tying
               Tie a common sheet bend and then tuck the working end a second time (figure

               1). Ensure both wrapping turns lie neatly alongside one another and then tighten
               the knot (figures 2–3).
