From May 30th to June 2nd representatives from all 13 components met in Verona, NY for the 2024 NYSDA
House of Delegates. Representatives from NCDS included Delegates Drs. Steve Akseizer, Howard Baylarian,
Jay Fitzgerald, Meena Jaiswal, Kathy Leibowitz, Dave Miller, Elyse Patrella, Bob Peskin, Doug Schildhaus,
Maureen Tredwell, and Howard Weiner; Alternate Delegates Drs. Gene Porcelli and Scott Tredwell; and
NYSDA Trustee, Dr. Don Hills. There were 20 resolutions considered and voted on by the House of Delegates.
Some of the more significant ones were to seek legislation to: 1. Limit the ability of insurance companies to
lease their Networks without the dentist’s permission; 2. Make it easier for Dental Assistants to become
certified; 3.Change regulations to align with recent recommendations on radiation shielding; and 4. Improve-
ment on workforce issues. Also discussed was reducing member representation by cutting the size of the
House by a third (defeated) and not increasing dues for 2025 (approved). Also during the meeting Queen’s
member, Dr. Prabha Krishnan was installed as the 2023-24 President of NYSDA. We thank all those who took
time out of their practices and personal lives to attend and help improve our profession.
NCDS members invited ASDA Reps Kristen Johnson and Sam Alsafarjalani to join
them for a “working dinner” on Friday night for their insight as (soon to be)
young dentists.
