To the family and friends of Dr. Hyman Citron, who passed away on March 22, 2024 at the age of 99. He
was a loyal member of NCDS for 72 years! We wanted to know more about this life-long member, so we
contacted his daughter, Barbara Citron.
According to Barbara, Dr. Citron was born in 1924 to immigrant
parents from England and Poland. He was a bit of a mischievous
toddler until he found his passion...learning. This thirst for
knowledge led to a wonderful career in dentistry. It also made him
the resource for so many people, both family and friends. "Let's call
and ask Hy" (or Dad, Pop, Uncle Hy) became a familiar refrain.
Serving as a medical technician in the Army at Walter Reed Hospital
spurred his interest in the health field. Hyman graduated from City
College, followed by his DDS degree from Columbia University in
1950. He was a member of the Omicron Kappa Epsilon dental
honor society and a recipient of the Rowe-Wiberg Medal for excellence in prosthetic dentistry.
He began his dental career in the Bronx, followed by a family practice in Levittown in 1952. Clara, his
wife and love of his life, ran the business and worked by his side as a dental assistant. Known for his
comical and comforting chairside manner, he made family dental visits a better experience for children
and adults.
Dr. Citron enjoyed many years of retirement, splitting his time between New York and Florida. His
daughter, two grandsons and their wives, and four great-grandsons were the focus of his joy. A life
well-lived, filled with love, happiness, authenticity and purpose.
