Message from the Executive Director:
I hope everyone had a wonderful Summer. As we head into Fall, in addition to
our usual course offerings, we have a lot of major events planned.
th
On Sunday September 15 , we are having our 5K Walk/Run for Oral Cancer
Awareness at Bethpage State Park. The walk is a fund raiser for Oral Cancer
research and helps us fund our free public oral cancer screenings held through-
out the year. See the ad on page 30 in this Bulletin for more information and to
register. On Friday, September 27, we have our all-day Blockbuster course,
st
co-hosted with the Suffolk County Dental Society. “The Successful 21 Century
Practice” by nationally renown lecturer, Dr. Roger Levin, will help you and your
staff work smarter and smoother, while growing your practice. The course takes place at the Heritage Club
at the Bethpage Golf Course and includes breakfast and lunch. Register by going to page 22 in this Bulletin
th
or to our website. On Saturday, October 5 , we have our Shredding and Recycling event. This year we will
be taking electronics and x-ray film in addition to shredding documents. The event is in the North parking
lot of our headquarters from Noon to 4:00 PM. It’s free for NCDS members, but you have to register.
th
Finally, On Wednesday, November 20 , we are having another Casino Night to raise funds for our Give Kids
A Smile. Like last year there will be a buffet dinner with an open bar, plenty of casino tables and some
great items being auctioned off! Have a great time for a great cause and possibly go home with some great
prizes. Again, registration can be done through our website (www.nassaudental.org) or the ad on page 27
in this Bulletin. For a list of all our other Fall course offerings, see page 21. Don’t forget you are required
by NYS to take the new Child Abuse Detection and Reporting Course by April 2025. We are offering that as
th
an in-person course on October 28 .
At NCDS we strive to add value to your membership. We provide many free courses for members; unique
and exciting events that foster camaraderie, help keep you connected with your peers, and improve work/
life balance for you and your staff. Some examples of our activities in the past year include “Creating a
Memorable Patient Experience” with Rich Madow, our Oral Cancer Walk, Casino Night, the Axe Throwing
event, and our Resident Seminar Series. Our Board of Directors met over the Summer for a Strategic
Planning session to come up with new and exciting ideas for moving NCDS forward. Any member who has
an idea for the Society feel free to contact me, either by phone (516-227-1112) or email
(eporcelli@nassaudental.org). Together we are stronger!
The Society is here to make your life easier and help you succeed but, to paraphrase President John F. Ken-
nedy, “Ask not what your Society can do for you, ask what you can do for your Society!” Why not lend a
hand organizing one of our many events? Volunteer for our Give Kids A Smile or one of our free public Oral
Cancer Screenings. Or maybe consider joining our Board of Directors to help shape the Society as we move
forward. I am happy to report this year we have six young dentists nominated for director positions on our
Board. In the over quarter century I’ve been involved with the Board, that’s a record! One I’m proud to see.
We need more young minds with fresh ideas. If you would like to get involved in any way, please reach out
