Welcome Letter
Dear Readers,
I am proud to be the Executive Director of KEC. Assisting schools, students
and families embarking on career exploration pathways has been a passion
of mine for many years. Through the work of the KEC cooperative with
DeKalb, Sycamore, Rochelle, Genoa-Kingston and Hiawatha students, we
have allowed over 15,000 students from middle school through high school
to explore career options through our CTE based courses and programs over
the last ten years.
This Career Guide gives our many stakeholders in northern Illinois an
overview to explore and become familiar with CTE opportunities right here
near their homes:
■ Students can explore numerous college and career options while in high
school through KEC. This Career Guide can be a great conversation starter
with counselors, teachers and parents as classes are being chosen.
Narrowing down interests is an important step prior to pursuing a
college or career.
■ Parents can explore viable opportunities for their children in the area using
the career information provided, as well as the labor data provided within
each career path.
■ School counselors and teachers can use the information within these
pages to guide several conversations. Help your students prepare their
next steps with the information provided within this Career Guide.
We hope that you will find this Career Guide valuable.
Happy Career Hunting!
