Executive Director’s Report
Well it is amazing to try and figure out this COVID 19. We don’t have
supplies, you can’t get it twice (maybe), it’s potentially deadly and the
hospitals are on lockdown. Wouldn’t be great to actually get news based on
all the facts verses someone’s best guess/opinion or political preference.
Leonard is correct that the staff, especially Scott has really made an effort
to keep things moving at the Chapter office. It is amazing how many people
show up without masks, want to hug him or just shop because they are
bored. Mind you ¾ of these visitors don’t have masks. Policy is now no
mask, no entry.
I have only been out about 5 times in the last 7 weeks but the two most
common sites in Phoenix are Amazon delivery trucks and people without
protection. We are a state that craves it’s individual freedoms but what
about infringing on other’s safety?
I’ve spoken to Sue Wudy and we agreed to not have a Veteran’s Booth at
the State Fair this year. The cost is high and they are unsure if we will get a
refund if does not happen. Also with news stories of a possible second
wave, we doubt anyone will want to work the booth..
If all goes well our summer in Arizona’s prime weather will be getting the
office moved. Although the apartments are wheelchair accessible we will
be upgrading A/C units and replacing flooring. We will be less than a mile
from the Phoenix VAMC. Upgrading the security and attempting to add
more accessible parking top the list. Our present building is to be
demolished so we will strip anything of value that can be used to our new
space.
Be safe and good luck as we reopen
Peter Quinn, Executive Director
