IMPACT SURVEY & REPORT 2019
RECOMMENDATIONS
FOR FURTHER STUDY,
INVESTIGATION AND
POSSIBLE IMPLEMENTATION
• It is clear that The Port Grocery activities are having a positive impact on
most people’s lives who attend. This being said, it would be interesting to
explore ways in which more people could play a more active role with the
project rather than being on the receiving end of a service. For example,
we have 7 newly acquired allotments, members could grow their own fruit
and vegetables and be encouraged to grow these at home if possible.
This would be a positive reason for engaging with The Port Grocery project
from a mental and physical health perspective, and not just a food waste
reduction level.
• In the interest of retention, it would be interesting to examine
the retention of new and existing members of the Port
Grocery and attendees of the Wednesday Welcome.
• Given that Ellesmere Port has an almost 50% split in Males
and Females yet there are significantly more females than
males engaging with The Port Grocery activities; a greater
understanding is needed of the gender imbalance of those
involved (members, volunteers, staff).
• A study into the effectiveness of The Port Grocery project as
a place for external services to use as an outpost or
referral location.
• An investigation into attitudes towards food
waste before and after engaging with The Port
Grocery Project.
• More research should be conducted into the social
impact and difference between the experience of
using The Port Grocery solely or in conjunction with
the Wednesday Welcome.
