IMPACT SURVEY & REPORT 2019
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Port Grocery (“TPG”) is a Community Interest Company, registered in August
2016 and was established for the main purpose of opening and operating
a membership based community shop that collects food donated by local
suppliers and reintroduces this food to our local community. All of the food that
is collected is still perfectly edible and would normally have been disposed of by
the suppliers by sending it to landfill.
TPG occupies premises in Trinity Methodist
Church, Ellesmere Port and has a current
membership base of 600. These members
pay a weekly membership fee of £5.00 and
this entitles them to visit the shop once a
week and select groceries to the value of
£16-25.oo each visit. Current food collections
by TPG average 180 per week (approx. 7
Tonnes per week) and the food is donated
by 36 different suppliers, mainly located
within Cheshire West and Chester.
The purpose of this report is to examine the impact that the activities of The Port
Grocery and its associated projects have on various, defined aspects of our
community and our environment.
The results, outcomes and suggestions presented in this report are drawn
from surveys, feedback and questionnaires provided by members of TPG, its
associated projects, guests at our Wednesday Welcome, our weekly free lunch
and various partner organisations and service providers.
Whilst the specific outcomes and details of the collated information received
from the respondents to our questions are detailed below, the overall opinion
of the impact of our activities is overwhelmingly positive.
