Constructed circa 1890 as a boarding house for overflow from the Glenn Springs Hotel,
the Smoak House continued to serve meals to the community into the 1940s. The large
two-story frame house with a two story rear ell and one story kitchen wing had
21 weatherboard siding, hip roofs sheathed in patterned metal shingles, and six-over-six
window sashes.

The frame, two story residence, constructed in the early nineteenth century,
had a gable roof, one story porch across the facade, weatherboard siding,
22 and nine-over-six window sashes.
This site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Burroughs House
(no longer standing)
Built in 1910 as a single-family home, current owners Joseph and Beverly Shelton
reported the Smoak House overflow would be Holliday House guest, and that Mr.
Holliday hand dug and laid stones for steps to the road for a wedding here. The Hollidays
sold the house to Ben and Catherine Johnson who sold it to the Sheltons. When the
23 Spartanburg County Boys' Home owned the spring property, the boys came to cook outs
at the Sheltons and fished in the large pond at the back of the property. The pond was the
site of baptisms for Shiloh Baptist Church. The two-story frame farmhouse has a tall hip
roof, weatherboard siding, with a one-story hip-roofed porch. The Holliday House is
Holliday House (Shelton Home) listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
