Principles
Evolution
1977 The MHEC is created. The initial membership
Living The comprised of 29 public entities & 5 small private
institutions.
Mission 1998 The Massachusetts legislature enacted a statue
which specifically referred to the MHEC by name. MGL
Chapter 15A, sections 24A.
2000 The MHEC officially separates from the University
of Massachusetts System and forms its own 501 (c)(3).
2006 The MHEC received approval to expand its member-
ship throughout New England.
Customer 2011 The MHEC Board of Directors and MHEC members
formally vote on and pass changes to the organizations
Service by-laws that allow for the expansion of membership to
include municipalities, K-12 schools to join the MHEC.
2011 In December of 2011, the City of Peabody, Massa-
chusetts, becomes the first municipal member of
MHEC.
2017 The MHEC celebrates is 40th year in business!
2018 In April, MHEC begins the onboarding of mem-
bers from SCOOP, an organization consisting of 1,800
libraries throughout the states of Vermont, New Hamp-
Team shire and Maine.
2018 On June 1st, Mascoma Valley Regional School Dis-
Work trict, New Hampshire, becomes the 1,000th MHEC
Member.
