4 ]Adjustment of the Water Allocation Plan for the Chao Phraya River BasinFollowing the monitoring of water situations and dry-season crop cultivation in coordination with relevant agencies, it was observed that by late December 2023,the second round of dry-season rice cultivation (off-season rice)in the irrigated areas of the Chao Phraya River Basin exceeded the initially planned area. The cultivated area is expected to increase to 5.92 million rai (947,200 hectares). Accordingly, the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, through the Royal Irrigation Department, adjusted the water allocation plan for the Chao Phraya River Basin.This adjustment was based on rainfall forecast data from ONE MAP for a six-month period combined with historical average rainfall data, which were used to analyze and revise the water allocation plan and estimate the dry-season water availability for 2024/2025. The dry-season crop cultivation plan for 2023/2024 in the Chao Phraya River Basin was revised to align with the second round of dry-season rice cultivation (off-season rice), increasing the water allocation plan from the original 5,600 million cubic meters to a new allocation of 7,700 million cubic meters. Additionally,the water allocation from the Mae Klong River Basin, intendedto maintain the ecosystem of the Tha Chin and Chao PhrayaRivers, was adjusted from the original 500 million cubic meters to a new allocation of 1,000 million cubic meters.This proposal was submitted to the Subcommittee on Water Resources Management Operations during its Meeting No. 1/2024 on 25 March 2024, which approved the principle of adjusting the water allocation plan for the Chao Phraya River Basin by the Royal Irrigation Department.
