HOW TO USE YOUR PREP TIME WISELY

Sometimes you will finish your prep early, or perhaps you will think you have no prep. It is important that you learn
to use dedicated prep time wisely.

Remember – the more effort you put in now, the more prepared you will be for future lessons and assessments.

        1. Check My School Portal / Showbie to see what homework has been set for your class. Make sure all prep
tasks have been completed in the way they were asked to be done and that you have put in 100% effort.
        2. If required, upload your prep to Showbie.
        3. Check your exercise book / Showbie, is there any work you need to catch up on? Perhaps you have missed
some lessons for a sport / music / drama commitment or maybe you have been off school because you have been
        ill.

Below are suggestions of tasks you can complete during prep time. These tasks will encourage you to become a
more thoughtful learner and direct you to work independently, a very important core skill.

        • Revision notes / cards / mindmaps - prepare for future assessments.
        • Journal work tasks, published in the Year 7 and 8 Pupil Handbook.
        • Maths - Sparx
        • Languages - Linguascope
        • English – Bedrock / learn spellings / subject specific vocabulary / read a good book.
        • Science - access topic resources on SharePoint.
        • Geography – access topic resources on SharePoint, revise your location knowledge lists.
        • History – read around the topic you are learning about. Research a famous person in history.
        • RS – think about different world religions and famous leaders.
        • Art – search for a picture on the internet and make a careful observational drawing of it.
        • Food Tech – A website packed full of information about nutrition and healthy eating.

There is now no excuse, you can no longer say, ‘I have nothing to do!’
Have a growth mindset and not a fixed mindset.
Get motivated – you will feel better for it!
