P. 3
Introduction
I am delighted to be joining the school in September 2024 as Deputy Head (Pastoral) and I very much look forward to meeting
students and parents/carers in the forthcoming months. The staff here at Millfield are here to both support and challenge your
children and will guide and strengthen them as individuals with their utmost care.
Millfield is an exciting, dynamic and diverse school where our core values of being brilliant, showing kindness, being authentic,
disrupting the status quo and expressing curiosity run through the heart of our day to day lives. While most students adhere to
these values and expectations of our school community at all times, there may be occasions when behaviours need to be
challenged. An example of this would be where natural curiosity leads to taking too many risks, or where friendships break
down through disrespectful communication. We hope everyone learns from these experiences so that we can prioritise the
safety and security of all members of our community
This booklet outlines the positive mechanisms in place to celebrate positive behaviour and the power of student voice,
alongside how the school challenges behaviour that goes against the school values.

Positive Behaviours
Positive behaviours are celebrated in many ways, including the rewarding of Good News from all teachers. Assemblies, House
Masters/Mistresses, awards and through our regular and robust reporting systems to parents. Treats in group tutor PSHE
Programme. Our PSHE programme and pastoral systems contribute to the support and education of young people about
matters relating to health and relationships.
It is hoped that this guide will be used to prompt discussions about appropriate, safe and healthy behaviours between
members of our community, both online and in situ. Conversations should aim to be positive, rather than pessimistic and
punitive and restorative practice should underpin our responses wherever possible.
If behaviours are not in keeping with our school values, students should expect to be challenged and / or sanctioned in a
proportionate manner.
Upon transition to the Sixth Form, a student’s minor disciplinary record will be reset to ensure parity with new Lower Sixth
entries. However, in exceptional cases where a student’s behaviour or disciplinary record is considered serious enough to call
their place in the Sixth Form into doubt, a student contract maybe utilised at the Deputy Head (Pastoral) / Headmaster’s
discretion.
