Year 8 Culture & Literacy
At the beginning of the year, the Year 8 Culture and Literacy Studies class weighed anchor and set sail aboard the Hispaniola as they engaged in the story of “Treasure Island” by Robert Louis Stevenson. Part of their studies has included looking at the long history of piracy and distinguishing real, from fictional pirates.
Over the course of the semester the students have answered many questions about the swashbuckling adventure, culminating in the “unlocking” of a treasure chest containing the next part of their seafaring journey. They are now comparing a film version of the classic tale to the original written text.
National Simultaneous Storytime -
Speedy Sloth Colouring Competition
On Wednesday 24th May, Harvest Christian College was one of over 20,000 locations that shared a reading of the 2023 National Simultaneous Storytime book ‘The Speedy Sloth’ written by Rebecca Young and Heath McKenzie.
In addition to reading the book, students were also invited to take part in our ‘Speedy Sloth’ colouring competition. All entries were very well done, which made choosing our prize winners a very difficult task. Book prizes were awarded to students from Foundation - Year 4.
Primary Auslan
Recently the Primary classes have been learning about ‘Depicting Signs’ in Auslan lessons, and had fun using them to create some well- known cartoon characters.
