Dining in the Clouds
The TV Tower (Teletorn in Estonian) is Estonia's highest
building, standing at 314 meters. The Tower was originally
built in 1975, but was beautifully renovated in 2012.
Historically speaking, the tower played a role in Estonian
re-independence. In August of 1991, having declared
independence, the locals had to fend off an attempt by
the Soviet army to take control of the tower. Some brave
employees barricaded themselves in important rooms to
keep the Soviets from gaining control of this vital State
asset.
The TV tower is now a hot spot for tourists, off ering
incredible views and the opportunity to walk on the edge
of the tower as a part of their extreme attractions. The
tower is the highest open observation platform in the
Nordic countries. Walking along the outside edge of the
22nd fl oor (175 meters up) is defi nitely an exhilarating
experience, even though you are safely harnessed. For
more info about the tower and the attractions check
teletorn.ee. (The TV Tower is about 9km from the city
center. Uber and Taksify charge about €10 for the ride).
