Rome, The Eternal City
W
e begin our week in Rome by wandering around the
cobblestone streets of Trastevere, visiting churches,
piazzas, enjoying the food and whatever we find.
We have a week exploring Rome
before sailing from Civitavecchia.
Over the next five days, our wandering takes us to the St. Peter’s
Basilica and the Vatican Museums, Palatine Hill with the Roman
Forum and Colosseum, the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Spanish
Steps, numerous piazzas, tourist traps and other sights.
Online: See the Palazzo Baj Guesthouse
Our home in Rome is the Palazzo Baj, a four-room guesthouse in
a late 19th century building overlooking the Tiber river in
Trastevere, a neighborhood with the feel of an Italian village
that has kept its charm from the medieval ages.
Trastevere, which means “across the Tiber,” started as an
Etruscan village around the 5th century BC.
