Services are provided through sponsored based initiatives developed to help our Federation Organizations youth
membership, by employing a core strategy of empowering communities to help transform and stand up for teens
and their education by integrating a Life by Design Education Initiative, built on the belief that the life they make is
the life they will have, their decisions are their life’s blueprint, with the understanding we cannot always build the
future for our teens, but we can build our teens for the future.
JMAT4youth.org is well on the move to becoming a National Federation for Youth Organizations by continuing to
work in youth-serving community’s institutions to launch, develop, and help sustain, Life by Design approaches and
spaces within those communities. This comprehensive initiative focuses on building pockets of learning
environments, particularly those in underserved communities and offer the following support: Personal
Development: Training Opportunities (in person and Online) for facilitators, and group coordinators to both develop
their skills to integrate, Life by Design approaches and spaces into their current settings and prepare them to train
others in their local communities.
The Role of Community Organizations and Nonprofit Federations
Federations like JMAT 4 Youth Federation are essential structures for organizing, promoting, and practicing
philanthropy. Community Organizations, and Nonprofit Organizations depend on federations to:
• Ensure Fundraising Efficiency
• Offer meaningful and manageable Program Services
• Heighten accountability by performing due diligence on Member Organizations
• Provide Professional Campaign Management Services and Support
• Promote Community Organization, and Nonprofit collaboration and capacity building
What is a Federation?
Federations are groups of Community Organizations, and Nonprofit Organizations united for fundraising and/or
marketing purposes around a common area of societal focus or concern such as youth development, human and
social welfare, the environment, medical research, and international relief. Many federations have a geographic
component which brings together members based on their international, national, state, metropolitan or regional
boundaries.
The federated model of giving, popularized in America over decades of charitable solicitation, which has allowed
millions of people to become philanthropists. Federations enable individuals to support an entire community of
organizations that are aligned with their personal charitable interests and values.
Federations manage and support campaigns and serve as a liaison between donors, and groups of organizations.
Community Organizations, and Nonprofit Organizations often views the staff of its Federation as an extension of
its own development and finance capacity. By outsourcing this fundraising component and joining together with
other organizations, members of federations achieve economies of scale in their fundraising efforts.
Benefits to the Donor:
1. Federations allow donors easy access to a variety of charitable giving options.
2. Federations offer an efficient and convenient way to identify nonprofit organizations for the donor,
grouping charities by program services and allowing donors to elect to support those that most appeal
to their personal values.
3. Federations offer the opportunity for donors to give anonymously and, conversely, ensure that donors
who wish to be acknowledged will be thanked.
4. Federations link donors to volunteer opportunities of their member organizations.
