104 SPIRIT AND THE MIND
accepted spiritual reality. Could this present dream represent her having acquired an element of that love after facing her fear and now opening more to her spiritual self?
Soon after the dream, on July 26, 1984, A.T. stopped treatment. As she drew closer to terminating she dealt with the same themes— faith, trust, openness and surrender—but now on deeper mental and spiritual levels. More fully in touch with biological impulses and drives, at the same time she became more aware of the need to enter spiritual practices to gain deeper peace. She has continued to be successful in the outer world with work and family, as wife and mother, and has a wonderfully close and loving relationship with her son.
She now spends time daily, sitting quietly in contemplation and meditation. She is more willing to be vulnerable in sharing fears. She is seriously involved with church and community service projects and is more intense in her search for spiritual meaning and insight in dreams and daily life. She appreciates the importance of facing joy and sorrow, pleasure and pain with equanimity—with openness and courage —and with faith in the possibility of realizing a grand transcendental reality in this lifetime.
