4. Questions from the floor:
} What to do with extra ostomy supplies? Hang onto them right now. Don’t have option to send to OCS distribution hubs at present.
} How many paid members are in group at present? 35. Doing better than most chapters and peer support groups right now.
} Options to meet in future? May have socially distanced meeting space in ostomy supplier warehouse in Barrie, once people are fully vaccinated.
} Why do we have to pay bank fees? We are not a registered charity and do not have an NFP number like OCS has. Monthly bank fee per account is $1.95.
} Can we claim our OCS and OASC fees as donations on our income tax? No. Membership fees are not considered donations.
} What’s happening to the Camp Fund? Since no money is coming into the Camp Fund (no 50/50s), the board decided at its last meeting to take bank fees for the Camp Fund from the General Account. In addition, we’ve had a couple of donations to the camp fund: $100 from our speaker Brock Masters, and $100 from Gordon Douglas, Hernia Helper.
} How about an ostomy camp for adults? Great idea. Let’s hold that thought.
} Could we do a virtual 50/50 draw every couple of months? We will look into that. We do a 649 at
church: pick 10 numbers, first person to get all 10 numbers gets half the money collected.
Guest speaker:
Our ostomy nurse Jenn Brewer, RN BScN CETN(C), joined the meeting at 7:40pm Among questions and comments by Group Members:
1. There’s a lot of confusion about how to meet with you. Can you clarify?
} I work with Dr. Lisi out of Collingwood General & Marine Hospital. Ask your doctor for a referral to Dr. Lisi, then we can book a half-hour visit. If you need more follow-up, you can rebook within the year.
2. Where do we get your contact details?
} They’re printed in the Ostomy Edge newsletter every month, in the box about Do You Have an Ostomy Nurse: etnjen@gmail.com; Home: 705-322-6879; Cell: 705-331-1021
