near the shed. She walked, trotted and cantered her both ways, making sure that the leading leg in each canter was always correct. If a horse canters on the wrong or outside leg on a circle it is likely to be unstable, to trip over and fall flat on its face.
Saffron found this sort of horse-work boring. She much preferred going on trail rides or jumping, but she knew it was good for the pony and felt rather noble for getting it done. For once she was going to get home well before dark. Mobo had not shown up, but that was probably because he had nothing new to report. She reached up under the eaves of the shed and put the kitten-snacks she had brought with her into the, now empty, lunch-box.
As she walked towards the house Saffron heard her brother and his band busy practising in the garage. She went past the open door to take a closer look. They only had a couple of days before their big-gig at the school dance. She stopped, watched and listened, wondering how they would manage on Saturday.
Chuckie shared the vocals with a girl called Linda - also the band’s drummer. Linda gelled her short dark hair into spikes and wore heavy, studded wrist supports while she was drumming. The Cheeseburger’s bass guitarist was a short, fat guy called Wolf - the weirdest thing about him was that he really, truly was called Wolf. His parents were German, he had a long and totally unpronounceable family name and was in love with a German metal-band called Rammstein.
