An On Bast -
Harvest Techno, Tech-house,
Electronica [Ghost Kitchen] Out Now
Do not be fooled by idyllic and humorous cover of the latest EP of an excellent Polish producer of electronic music - An On Bast. Put aside merry associations. The new material is a powerful dose of thick dark - space - techno. It's deep, sometimes even very gloomy, with piercing bass, wild drums happening across the spectrum of absolutely cosmic sounds.
It starts with an innocent prelude in the form of "Su Fighter" that should be treated as a good warm-up preparing for the real harvest. An On Bast dosed the experience by introducing the audience deeper and deeper into the abyss of intricately composed sounds. The temperature in the song builds up, but does not reach its apogee. It keeps in check. Metrical beat outlines the rhythm, moves the senses, builds mood.
There’s a different story going on in "The Harvester", which from the beginning immerses in a murky, dream-like, at the same time disquieting dark-techno. Heavy bass and shredded, leading melody, which don’t take the groove away however. On the contrary - this track enslaves body, it is sultry and dense like cigarette smoke looming somewhere in the background, totally mesmerizing.
Immediately after, in "Auf Karussell", characteristic of the artist theme appears of diabolical, amusement park like instrumentation. Weirdly trembling children's music box accompanied by insane drums make a perfect tandem for a beat. Sounds pile up, sometimes creating
a wonderful mixture of forms, colors and meanings, in which An On Bast gives vent to her technical and visionary abilities.
EP closes "Revenge of the Nerds" - the work definitely calmer than the previous ones, giving repose after dark, psychedelic tripping, but remaining in the atmosphere. There are more of a cosmic space sounds fillings taken from the rich An On Bast’s universe. "Harvest" "mows” senses completely with modern expanse full of all An On Bast already managed to get used to her audience - space sounds, original, surprising instruments and juicy penetrating beat. This material is definitely danceable, there are little moments to take a breath, the kick drum constantly dictates the rhythm. The artist this time reached into the dark guts of her electronic instrumentation, giving the whole material attractively sinister character. This fall "Harvest" will gather the crop on many dance floors!
