alternate delegate at the 1976 DNC, where she was shocked by the
dreadfully low number of female delegates. She made a motion that there
should be equal numbers of male and female delegates. Two years later her
party passed the measure. Gloria, who has been a Hillary Clinton supporter
since 2008, came to cast her vote for Secretary Clinton. Gloria spoke of her
feelings to reporters: "I have fought for women's rights, and the right for
women to be equally involved in the political system, and to have equal
representation at all levels of government. So to be here this week, and to
see Hillary as the first woman ever to be nominated by a major party, is
very exciting. It is history. I wish Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady
Stanton were here to see this." Gloria is a member of the GHS Court of
Honor of Distinguished Daughters.

Erika Alexander (June 1987) A gifted actress, she is also a talented
author, an activist for minorities, and a supporter of Hillary Clinton. Erika
came to Philadelphia to show strong support for Secretary Clinton, and also
to introduce another Hillary backer, Ryan Moore. Ryan suffers from
spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia dwarfism. He became an advocate for Hillary
Clinton in 1994 when he and his family came to Washington, D. C. to take
part in a program in support of health care reform. Erika told members of
the news media, "This is a historic moment for America. It's awesome. I am
honored to have been asked by Hillary to introduce Ryan Moore. It's a bonus
to do so in my adopted home town of Philadelphia." Erika is a member of the
GHS Court of Honor of Distinguished Daughters.

Philadelphia Councilwoman Blondell Reynolds Brown (June 1970)
answered questions we sent her about her experience at the 2016 DNC.
She noted that of the last 8 conventions she attended, she was an elected
delegate to 7 of them. H daughter attended all of them with her. The
Councilwoman observed that this is an exciting time for our country,
particularly significant because of the pending historical nature surrounding
the official nomination of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as our country’s
first-ever Democratic woman nominee. The Councilwoman spoke warmly of
GHS. "Girls’ High is one of the big success stories in urban education. I
could not be more proud to be counted among our rich history. Girls’ High
instilled in me a sense of confidence, self-worth, and, most important, a
rock-solid educational foundation that has allowed me to dream and achieve
my goals. Girls’ High taught me "carpe diem”; to seize the day. Seek to be
a participant and not a spectator in life. Choose to be involved in a cause, a
mission that gives you purpose; and whatever you choose, pursue the effort
with zeal and enthusiasm." The Councilwoman is also a member of the GHS
Court of Honor of Distinguished Daughters.
