Katherine Gilmore Richardson (June 2001) attended the DNC as an
elected delegate. She currently serves as
Chief of Staff to Girls’ High alumna,
Councilwoman Blondell Reynolds Brown.
Kathy served as an intern and volunteer
to the Councilwoman. When a position
opened on the staff, she was happy to
join the office as a Constituent Services
Representative. She later served as
Legislative Aide, Staff Director, and is
now Chief of Staff.
Kathy responded to the question Did your
experiences at Girls’ High help to prepare
you for the DNC? "Girls’ High definitely
prepared me for the Democratic National
Convention—and life! As students at Girls’
High, we were always expected to do and
be our best at all times, whether related
to our educational pursuits or
Katherine Gilmore poses with Huma Abiden at the extracurricular activities. As a student, I
Wells Fargo Center. recall our principal, Dr. Myles, speaking
to us about pursuing a college education and what our minimum pay should
be once we completed college. At Girls’ High, I learned to believe in myself
and be proud of who I am. Girls’ High taught me that I am excellent, and in
turn should always produce and demand excellence in my life. The DNC is
the Super Bowl for those of us who are politically engaged. Just like many
days when I was a student at Girls’ High, there were a lot of late nights and
early mornings. Each day I strive to do and be my best and learn as much as
I can just as I did when I was a student at Girls’ High."
We asked Kathy, How many GHS girls did you see at the convention? She
replied, "I saw a lot of Girls’ High girls during
the Convention. It was a pleasure to share
my first DNC as a delegate with
Councilwoman Reynolds Brown. Over the
years, I have learned so much from watching
her work day in and day out; we had an
awesome time together. My GHS classmate,
Sincere Harris, is the Executive Director of The Honorable Blondell Reynolds Brown (l) Katherine
the Pennsylvania Democratic Party. It was a Gilmore Richardson (r)
pleasure to see and work with her over the course of the week. Additionally,
Shirley Franklin, the former Mayor of Atlanta spoke during the convention.
I also saw Erika Alexander, the actress, from afar.
