 Replacement of old water pipe line from Sheepmandi GLR to Boiguda GLR

The existing pipe line which was laid about 100 Yrs back was replaced with new pipe
line. This old pipeline passes through various encroachments between Sheepmandi GLR to
Bouguda GLR. There are numerous leakages and unauthorized taping points in this pipeline
as this pipeline was laid about a century back and now it is highly untraceable. It is very
tough o attend the leakages and unauthorized taping as the old pipeline existing was highly
untraceable and was passing under several encroachments in secunderabad area.
Identification of old pipeline near Boiguda GLR and SC yard is very much required for giving
the new connection to the old pipeline and also to dummy the old pipeline so as to avoid flow
of water into the old pipeline in the existing loop. For identifying the old pipeline, most
sophisticated methods such as ground penetration Radars, Geophysical methods, Cable
tracing machines and Electro resistivity machines are used to dummy the old pipeline to
avoid back flows. But inspite of many efforts it was not traced by the above methods.

Finally, assistance of retired valveman, SSE’s and previous DEN/Estates was taken
and with great difficulty by trial and error methods duly digging the cross trenches, the old
pipe line has been traced at two locations.

The work of replacement of Old pipeline was the most difficult and tedious work
which was started two years back as the new water pipeline has to be laid along the cess
and adjacent to the Track of Secunderabad Station yard. Added to this, there were lot of
underground cables and site was not feasible for movements of materials due to non
availability of approach Roads on either sides.
