Page 79 - MY BOY CHAZ
P. 79
Mom told me one day that Richard was playing ball with a friend. When he reached for the oncoming ball,
he fell off a ten-foot ramp, breaking his arm and knocking out two front teeth. He ran into the restaurant's
back door, yelling that Gene did it repeatedly, till she reminded him I was serving in the Army 1500 miles
away. His answer was, Oh!
When he graduated, he married Maureen; this was a perfect match for him.
If there was a slight chance for Richard and me to be civil to one another, she ended all possibilities of that
happening. There was never a kind word between us. One day I came into the restaurant with Chaz to have
lunch. Chaz was about a year old. She came over to my table, snatched Chaz up, and proceeded to call me
every name in the book. Every four-letter word and some I had never heard. It was okay, though, it was
Richard's fiancée, and she, like Richard, could do no harm.
It was a tough life for me to ride most of the time. I built up so much anger. Where do I go? What do I do?
What the hell is next? Many choices but no mental means to discriminate the correct actions to take. Running
away fits best. I’m not blaming them. Just me being on the outside looking in. Another regret of not knowing
thy self-early on in life.
