The discipler leads and asks the following. The disciple
answers.
A Brief Pause
You’ve probably noticed by now: The goal of these dis-
cipleship sessions isn’t just transferring information
between the two of us. It’s about your ongoing transformation as you draw
closer to Jesus, as you follow him more closely.
That’s why we begin every session asking you what, if anything, is
keeping you from being fully present for your session. If there’s a worry or
concern in the way, let’s discuss and pray about it.
The disciple shares with the discipler.
Devotion Check In
With your discipler, walk through the three devo-
tions you completed getting ready for this session.
Your candid sharing will help your discipler know where to focus dur-
ing the next hour.
Both share — either can take the lead,
ask a question, or make a comment. You
can also trade back and forth reading
sections.
A Conversation About The Bible
Both of you will go through the following outline together. But keep in
mind it is a conversation—your honest, active participation matters.
Even if you don’t know much about the Bible, how you view it is im-
portant—and so is your developing an appetite for the Bible.
Most people think of the Bible as a sort of spiritual broccoli. They
know it’s good for them, and they know it should be a regular part of their
diet, but they don’t go out of their way to pile it on their plate. At best they
read a verse a day that’s tucked into a devotion. Or they resolutely plow
through the Bible in a year, seldom pausing long enough to let anything
they read soak in.
