Job Interview Question 88
What would you do if you made an important business decision
and a co-worker challenged it?
This question gets to how you deal with criticism.
Give the interviewer the idea that you are confident enough to be open to criticism or challenges
without getting stopped in your tracks with anger or indecision.
In this case, I would say, “I would take this person aside and ask why they felt the way they did,
because I’m always interested in hearing the pros and cons of a decision so that I can make the best
one. I never like the idea of making a mistake, but if I do, I want to correct it.If what they told me
made no difference to my decision or it was something I’d already considered, I’d thank them for
their input, let it go, and move on.”
You want to show that you are thoughtful, coachable, and professional even in the face of
criticism of your decisions, as well as confident enough to stick by a good one.
