The United in Diversity Foundation or Upaya Indonesia Damai is a partner in the bold vision of creating an international
Serangan Community community with traditional allure. The Serangan village on the north east of the island has much to share with the world about
the principles and living heritage of Bali. United in Diversity will integrate the village with the Kura Kura Bali island development
uniting the diversity and preserving the legacy of their deep Bali Hindu culture.

Initiatives for the Serangan villagers will be guided by “Serangan Bumi Indah” as a motto by Anak Agung Ngurah Kusuma
Wardhana. United in Diversity foundation aims to collaborate with Serangan villagers to identify problems shared by the
community, and jointly lay out long-term sustainable solutions for the island and its inhabitants. United in Diversity’s Cultural
Revitalization program nurtures a creative ecosystem where local wisdom, traditions, arts and music may flourish through many

the collaboration and engagement of the
Serangan villagers. Bank Sampah or Garbage Bank initiative will extend to Bankuang Bank where bankuang is a turnip that once populated
Serangan Island but later became extinct. United in Diversity foundation works closely with villagers to establish a system
of account where credits are stored for the retrieval of garbage, the collected garbage is then sold for upcycling into other
products creating a sustainable chain. Similarly Bank Uang is a sustainable program that hopes to revive organic farming of
a once important produce on the island, the humble Turnip. The seeds have been sourced from neighboring Nusa Penida.
Balinese Wayan Patut was awarded the Kalpataru award by the Indonesian President for his work.
Kura Kura Bali and United in Diversity Foundation also works with conservation champion Wayan on coral farming and other
initiative. There are other village initiatives such as a turtle conservation center, seawater to freshwater outfit, and others. The
concept of Cow Bank goes back to the roots of traditional agriculture. The cows produce manure, which is used to fertilize
and support the island’s agricultural activities thus creating a closed loop sustainable approach.
Seaweed harvesting is an environmental initiative aimed at protecting the corals around Serangan. Certain species of sea
weed breed very fast and cover the corals and destroy them. Harvesting that not only saves and protects the colorful marine
eco system, but also generates a source of income for the community.
Entrepreneurship initiatives are encouraged to provide opportunities and skill development, empowering and supporting the
locals to work, create new green business and add value for their community.
