Martial Arts Etiquette
Welcome to USA Karate! We are excited to have you/your children here! We want to ensure
every student has the best experience for each class they attend. To allow us to do that,
there are certain rules to ensure everyone is behaving in a respectful and considerate
manner.
Preparing for Class
Practice good hygiene before class. There are times students will work with partners.
Gum, candy, food, etc. is not allowed inside the classroom. Please dispose of prior to
entering the classroom.
Ensure your uniform is freshly washed and clean. Students must have their complete
uniform provided by USA Karate to participate in class. If missing any component (gi top,
pants, belt) instructor permission must be obtained to participate.
Clothing can be worn underneath the uniform. However, clothing (t-shirts, hoods,
dresses, etc.) should not be visible outside of the uniform.
Belts are to be tied prior to class. Parents can help teach the students, but students are
responsible to learn how to tie their own belts to graduate to Gold Belt!
Hats, sunglasses, necklaces, bracelets, or watches should not be worn during class.
While exercise tracking devices (fitbits, smart watches, etc.) are allowed, students wear
them at their own risk.
Be ready for class 5 minutes before. Uniform on, belt tied, socks off, and equipment
ready. Shoes and personal belongings are to be placed in the designated bins lobby.
While waiting for your class to begin be respectful of the students finishing their class.
Prepare for your class quietly.
Student Class Etiquette
When entering/leaving the classroom bow as a sign of respect.
Start each class focused and with a mindset for learning. Practice your 4-Laws of
Concentration (focus your eyes, ears, mind, and body).
No talking during class unless asked by the instructor. Raise your hand to answer a
question from the instructor. Always use your 7-Words of Respect!
Inappropriate language is not allowed and is grounds for immediate removal from class.
During class ensure you put in your best effort! This encourages other students around
you to work hard as well.
No touching, no pushing, or shoving another student during class unless it is an instructor
-led drill. Touching another student during class is grounds for immediate removal.
When the instructor calls out instructions acknowledge that you understand by
responding loudly “Yes Ma’am!” or “Yes Sir!” then proceed quickly as directed.
Observer Class Etiquette
No shoes on the mats (can leave socks on).
Silence all electronics. To answer any calls, please exit the classroom.
No talking / conversations while class is in session (we want the students to focus!).
No food in the studio. Drinks with a spill proof lid are allowed (water bottles, travel mugs).
