Success Tips for Parents
Keep your children on a regular schedule by attending 2 – 3 classes each week (use the
app to schedule).
If you are unable to attend a previously scheduled class, please use the app to remove
your student from the class.
Reschedule missed classes as soon as possible (use app to reschedule).
Arrive 5 minutes before class and be available to pick up no later than 5 minutes after
their scheduled class.
Remember, your children are learning new skills. Making mistakes is part of their journey!
As instructors we focus on progress not perfection! Will they make mistakes? Yes! Will
they use the wrong leg, arm, block, etc.? Yes! It is ok! The instructors are very aware of
all students and will use a combination of praise, highlighting, and corrections to guide
students throughout class.
Once students are on the floor, to help them focus, sit back and relax! Talking to them
during class only distracts them from focusing on the instructor.
Praise your children for improvements (large or small) on a regular basis!! Try to find one
thing they did during each class that you can compliment them on doing. This shows
them you are interested in what they are doing. After each class tell your children how
proud you are of them! Give them your biggest, best hug! If you are excited about their
classes they will be also!
Share their success stories and victories when they are away from the karate school with
our staff. Write them a “Victory Note” that can be read in front of the class! Positive praise
is a very encouraging method to reinforce the habits we want them to continue!
If there is an area you would like them to improve, speak to an instructor so we can
create a plan to resolve it quickly.
If you have any questions regarding their training speak to an instructor immediately. If
the instructor is unable to discuss at that time, we will schedule a time to have a meeting
Success Tips for Adult Students
Karate is not just for kids! When you are on the floor, focus on your learning, and avoid
comparing yourself to others. Don’t be over critical of yourself and revel in your small
victories. The martial arts journey is a marathon, not a sprint!
As you start, you will notice muscle groups you haven’t used for awhile. Try to do some
low impact exercises (walking, recreational biking, etc.) on days you are not at class to
help remove soreness. Work on stretching! In time your balance will improve, as will your
strength and flexibility!
Listen to your body! If you ever have something bothering you that is more than just a
minor soreness, tell your instructor so we can modify or avoid movements that would
continue to aggravate the pain.
Focus on eating healthier, more fruits, more vegetables, and keep hydrated!
