Representation We have 7 full time representatives based at Guardians House who act on your behalf negotiating with the force and at a national level with regard to police regulations, policies and procedures and as leaders in their field of discipline and equality. There are also 61 reps based locally to assist as an easily accessible first point of contact for members who have any issues of a work related or welfare requirement. There are also 3 representatives who are elected from the region (West Midlands, West Mercia, Warwickshire and Staffordshire) who form part of the Interim National Board, working out of Leatherhead and have particular responsibility, amongst other things, for negotiation with the Home Office around legislative changes affecting our members. As you may be aware the Federation has undertaken an independent review of itself and at this current time is working to implement the recommendations of the report that was published following the review. This work will be completed over this year and will see changes to its election processes and internal structure but hopefully no denigration in the service we offer in representing the members who require our service. Recommendations already agreed upon are: 1. The Federation’s Core Purpose This has been agreed 2. The formation of an independent Reference Group Is now in place 3. A new Election Process for all reps affecting every role within the federation Elections will take place in October 2016 4. The publication of an annual public value report This booklet 5. The publication of committee papers and accounts Again this is something which we in West Midlands have already adopted prior to it being made compulsory as part of the review 6. The completion of both local and national databases We have been working tirelessly to ensure that our local database is accurate and up to date by pro-active monitoring particularly at our regular roadshow events. The national database should be complete this year. Further details of our work in areas of Personnel & Equalities, Health & Safety and CaPLO (discipline) are covered in the following pages. 8
