The Phil Awards Annual Music
Scholarship to High School Junior
The Phil’s scholarship committee recently announced
its selection of Sydney Palmer, from Plymouth North
High School, as our 2021-22 scholarship recipient.
“Music education and community focus are among
the core values of the Phil’s mission,” says Judy
Fosdick, past president of the Phil’s Board of Trustees
and chair of the scholarship committee. “This
annual scholarship reflects our commitment to future
generations of music appreciation.”
The Phil’s annual scholarship is presented to a high
school junior who hopes to pursue a career in music.
The scholarship is given during the junior year of high
school to enhance a student’s chances of admission to a music school. The $2500
award may be used for additional music lessons, master classes or workshops,
summer music camps, tuition, travel costs to any of the above, purchase
of a better instrument, or other expenses that raise the level of a student’s
qualifications as an applicant to a music school.
Sydney Palmer is a singer, songwriter, and dancer who participated in the
Massachusetts All-State Festival as both a freshman and sophomore. She is music
director of the Northern Lights A Capella Choir, an ensemble she has participated
in since she was a freshman. Last year she ranked 2nd in the UMass Young Artist
Awards for Voice. Sydney is also actively involved in musical theater, performing in
productions with Plymouth Public Schools, The Company Theatre in Norwell, and
the Falmouth Theatre Guild.
Sydney aspires to study contemporary music and production in college. “I
look forward to continuing with voice lessons and digging deeper into music
production,” explained Sydney. “I am so thankful to the scholarship committee.”
We are excited to see where music will take Sydney in her life. We’re certain it will
be someplace wonderful! Congratulations and best wishes, Sydney.
