The Library
of Things
“The Borrowers” (1952) by Mary Norton is one of the best
children’s books of all time. A family of tiny people—Pod and
Homily Clock and their daughter, Arrietty—live quietly beneath
the floorboards of an old manor in England. In their miniature
home, matchboxes double as roomy dressers, champagne
corks become chairs, and postage stamps hang on the walls like
paintings. Whatever the Clocks need, they secretly “borrow”
from the “human beans” who live above them.
With our new Library of Things, you can be a Borrower, too. And there’s no need to be
secretive about it. We now have a handy collection of tools you can check out to put up
shelves, clean your carpets or pressure wash your house. But this extraordinary Library isn’t
all about tackling chores. Make some noise with a karaoke machine or strike up the band
with bongos, a keyboard, or one of our other musical instruments on loan. You’ll also find
everything for movie night—from a movie projector and inflatable screen to a get-it-while-its
hot popcorn machine. Or tap into technology—Chromebooks, Go Pro, or podcasting kit—
without tapping into your wallet.
Just reserve what you want, hand your Library Card to one of our “human beans” and become
a Borrower, too.
