Senior Result: Mayfield United 0-1 Cobh Wanderers.
Results elsewhere today combined with this win for Wanderers sees the team open
up a four point gap at the top of the league, with the
teams immediately behind having a single game in
hand. Former Mayfield man Anthony Wolfe had the first
chance to score but he put his headed wide following a
Jason Abbott corner. On 30 minutes Eoin Hastings picked
out the overlapping Kyle Downing down the right and
his cross was met by George Keating who got in front
of his marker to flick the ball to the net. Cian O’ Con-
nor missed a glorious chance to double the lead but his
effort went wide having been picked out with a perfect
ball by Alan O’ Flynn.
Dave Stack hit the bar with a right foot effort after he did well to close down the
defender and rob the ball off him. Keith O’ Flynn was next to go close when his vol-
ley hit the post after a good cross from Cian O’ Connor to pick him out. Wanderers
dealt comfortably with anything Mayfield were able to throw at them and picked up
a huge three points in the quest for the league title.

Over 35’s Floodlit League Result: Cobh Wanderers 3-2 Ballincollig
Wanderers followed up the cup semi-final win last time out with an impressive de-
feat of table toppers Ballincollig in the league tonight. Despite going a goal behind
in the first minute Wanderers fought back to level the score by half time with a
crisp strike from the edge of the box by Jimmy Quinlan which curled away from the
keeper low into the corner of the net. Wanderers took the lead following a superb
move down the right wing started by Tommy Cronin. The ball was played to Alleo
who fed Anthony Mahoney and his perfect return pass put Alleo in the clear to tuck
the ball past the keeper. Ballincollig levelled again following a free kick that crept in
at the far post.
Wanderers grabbed the winner when Jason Cronin sprinted onto a poor back-pass
and was upended by the keeper in the box. Tommy cronin stepped up to plant the
spot kick low to the keepers left giving him no hope of saving it. A fine display all
round.
