“How can you recognize someone who appreciates
safety equipment?” I asked next.
“Easy,” he said.“They take good care of it.”
So we deleted that fuzzy as well and replaced it with a per-
formance. Our list then looked like this:
• Follows safety rules.
• Wears hard hat in designated areas.
• Sweeps shavings from work area.
• Wears safety goggles while performing designated
tasks.
• Uses saw guard on table saw.
• Keeps safety equipment in good working condition.
Since we could tell whether these items were or were not
happening, we moved on to the fourth step. When we were
done, our items looked like this:
1. Follows all posted safety rules whenever in the shop.
2. Wears hard hat each time a designated area is entered.
3. Keeps lathe area clean by sweeping shavings into the bin
provided.
4. Wears safety goggles while performing the tasks posted.
5. Does not remove saw guard without permission while
using table saw.
6. Keeps personal safety equipment in good working con-
dition.
7. Reports faulty shop safety equipment.
