in the area? How much storage is necessary? Will attendant care need to be in the bathroom at
the same time the injured worker is? What needs to be preserved and what can be altered?

Preferences? While we cannot make guarantees, we still need to be aware of, and take into
consideration, the variables that influence the specifics.

If the appropriate steps are taken, the specific recommendations can be presented with
supporting evidence. The carrier can then make informed decisions and authorize an accurate

scope of work. It should be noted that on any assignment, there can be several accurate scopes
of work. The initial focus should be on having accurate functional objectives. If you have an

accurate functional objective, the appropriate method to achieve that objective becomes your
               scope of work.

The five steps to an accurate scope of work:

Step one: Determine primary focus: Functional independence or provision of care.

Step two: Establish specific functional outcome objectives.

Step three: Consider the influencing variables.

               Step four: Consider all options.

Step five: Present agreed to functionally necessary recommendations supported by

                              evidence.

Of course, any home modification project can go off the rails if information is not consistently and

appropriately shared. “Communication and documentation” was the third most common answer
to the survey question, What is the most challenging part of the home modification process?
The right information, communicated in the right way, at the right time will reduce confusion and

improve the outcomes. We’ll talk more about that next time.

               Until next time, continued success!
