Through 「Korean Traditional Paintings by Promising Painters」, the Korea National University of Cultural
Heritage took the first step towards cultural exchange with the UAE, its partner in the Middle East.

The Korea National University of Cultural Heritage is a special-purpose national university in the field of
traditional culture and cultural properties. By systematically educating all fields of traditional culture, we
are nurturing numerous professional talents who will lead the future of Korean traditional culture.

The traditional painting major, which continues the tradition of Korean traditional painting, establishes
and develops the legitimacy of traditional painting by comprehensively learning and re-creating everything
from the splendid high-class culture of the royal court to the humorous commoner culture and the solemn
                 religious culture.

The United Arab Emirates has created an attractive and unique art style, the Arabesque, which is distinct
and not similar to the West and the East. Now, it is developing as a tradition, and it has an influence that
                 transcends time and place.

I am very pleased to be able to present the process of inheriting the roots of traditional painting and
interpreting it in a modern way in the UAE where diverse cultures are harmonized.

Through this exhibition, I hope that the field of cultural exchange, which has been stagnant due to the
global COVID-19 pandemic, will be provided as a small stepping stone to regain its vitality.

I would like to express my gratitude to the officials of the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates, the
Korean Cultural Center in the United Arab Emirates, and the Sorbonne University, Abu Dhabi, for their
                 hard work for this exhibition.
