The guest speaker who had a fruitful talk and enriched everyone with valuable learnings
was Michael “Mike” U. Jimenez, a Registered Psychologist, Registered Nurse and a Licensed
Professional Teacher. The topic is all about Mental Health Awareness: A Talk About Suicide
Prevention. As defined by the World Health Organization, mental health is a state of well-being
where one realizes his own potential. The Filipino culture does not always emphasize mental
health, often attributing it as a sensitive topic and placing it out of the talk. Hence, not taking
care of one’s mental health leads to mental health conditions. Despite the problems, having a
good mental health shall allow us to cope with the demands and challenges in life. Being
mentally healthy paves the way to work productively and contribute to the society.
