Page 6 - Play Works Impact Report 2025
P. 6

I first walked through the door of Play Works
     - then known as Broxburn Family Centre - in
2002, as a community education graduate

learning my trade. I was inspired and in awe
of my new colleagues, whose passion,
commitment, care, and connection with our
community were remarkable. I had truly
landed on my feet; what a place and group
of people to learn from, be inspired by, and
be guided by. Never did I imagine I would be
writing the CEO section of our Impact Report
     in 2025.

I became CEO on 3rd January 2025, as
Raymond departed after more than two
decades in the role. While so much has
changed since my first day in 2002, one key
thing remains the same: I am still inspired SIMON HENDERSON
and in awe of my colleagues. They continue
to amaze me with their passion,
commitment, and care. They are what Chief Executive

     makes Play Works.

Our impact seems like a good place to start. As you read through this report, you will see
the statistics that show the scale of our work — supporting over 1150 children and families.
I’d like to take this opportunity to draw your attention to three comments from our latest
engagement feedback, received from more than 140 parents and carers.

“This has helped me get out the house. I feel less That last sentence underlines for
isolated and feel that my confidence as well as me that our mission - “trusting
my kids have grown. My kids have ADHD and the power of play to change the
autism and Play Works have helped support me lives of children and families
and my kids in so many different ways including facing adversity or poverty” - is
support with school. I really feel I have a life and working. Our work is changing
am living now and don’t feel alone” lives.

“Play Works has been one of the only truly safe, supportive spaces we’ve found as a

family. The staff are incredible — kind, understanding, and never judgemental. Other
services often can’t cope with my neurodivergent son’s energy, but here he’s
accepted exactly as he is. I also attended one of the adult sessions that supported
my own wellbeing in ways that are hard to put into words. Since some of the
funding was reduced, I’ve been unable to attend due to lack of childcare — and I’ve
really felt the loss. I truly hope funding continues. What Play Works offers is rare,
essential, and deeply missed when it’s gone.”
