• An assault was report- ed at 8:07 a.m. in the 1100 block of North Villa Avenue. An unidentified woman declined medical attention.
• Vandalism to a class- room was reported at 8:26 a.m. in the 1300
The Reedley Police Department handled 567 public-initiated and offi- cer-initiated calls for ser- vice, with 78 dispatched as Priority 1 calls. Offi- cers completed 104 police reports, made 24 arrests and issued 47 traffic cita- tions. There were three traffic collisions and two DUI cases, six fire calls and 14 medical aid calls.

There were 108 calls for service and 16 traffic citations were issued.

Martin WilliaM astiasuainzarra
Martin William Astiasuainzarra was born June 24, 1926 to Martin and Paula Astiasuainzarra in Reedley, California. He attended Reedley High School until being drafted into the United States Army in 1943. After returning from the service he met and married Helen Hurliman. Together they took over the family dairy which they owned and operated
until his retirement.
Martin loved to sing, yodel, and whistle to the cows while
milking and working on the dairy. He was a happy man and loved life.
As a veteran of WWll, going on the first honor flight to D.C. was a highlight .
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Helen; sister, Nellie Batker; daughters, Evelyn and Gail; son, Daniel; 8 grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren (his pride and joy).
Rosary and Mass will be held at St. Anthony’s (old church) on May 10,2021 at 10:00 a.m.

Alfonso Americo Chavez
November 9, 1934 – April 26, 2021
Reedley, CA – Alfonso “Al” Americo Chavez died at home,
Al touched many people throughout his life.
He was a beloved, son, brother, husband, brother- in-law, and father.
He was a patriot, sta- tioned in Korea during his
service in the US Army; a diplomat while at the
Mexican Consulate; an en- trepreneur in the tv and stereo
business, a founding member of a bank and ultimately a farmer.
Al was preceded in death by his parents Alfonso and Candelaria, his brothers Mario and Jaime and his son, Eric Chavez.
Al is survived by his brothers Gus and Rick Chavez; ex-wife Vera Vermillion; his son Alfie Chavez; his son Jason Chavez and wife Brandy; his daughter Tracy Murcia and husband Daniel; granddaughter Megan Gaddy and her husband Mar- cus, grandchildren Brandon, Taylir, Jordon and Eric Chavez; granddaughter Ayla Murcia and great-grandson William Gaddy.
Al was laid to rest on April 30, 2021 at the Reedley Cemetery.
Mr. Kenneth Ray Cook was born in Shamrock, Texas on August 14, 1941 to Lilly and Bill D. Cook and passed away on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at the age of 79.

Juanita was born on April 29, 1947, in Weslaco, TX, to Tomasa and Jose Elizondo.
Juanita was sleeping peacefully in her Dinuba Estates apartment, when her Lord and Savior unexpectedly called her home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Jose Elizondo, Jr., and four sisters, Minerva Piseno, Elva Garcia, Oralia Maldonado and Diana Garcia. She is survived by three brothers, Tony Elizondo of Fresno, Benito Elizondo of Stockton, and Felix Elizondo of Fresno, and three sisters, Angie Banuelos of Fresno, Mary Payan of Sanger, and Tomasita Castilleja of Dinuba.
Her services were held on May 3, 2021. Sanger Wallin and Son Funeral Home handled the arrangements. We would like to extend our gratitude for all the kind words of comfort, condolences, and floral arrangements during this difficult time.

Rozella Friesen, age 99, went home to be with
her Lord and Savior on April 22, 2021 at Palm
Village Retirement Center with her loving family being able to come and spend precious time with her in her last days.
Rozella was born in Diller, Nebraska on November 30, 1921 to Peter and Goldie Ratzlaff. Her family lived in Fairbury Nebraska where she attended a small country school and then completed grade 11 at Diller High School.
Then she married the love of her life Edwin Friesen on September 26, 1941 at the Jansen Nebraska MB Church. She and Ed worked side by side in the corn and grain fields until they followed their parents with hopes of a better life in Reedley in 1945.
Rozella’s life occupation was being an amazing homemaker, mother and grandmother to her family. Her side job was working as Ed’s secretarial assistant in his appliance repair business.
Rozella loved being a hostess to her growing family and many friends and relatives. She was famous for her fried chicken dinner, zweibach and chocolate cream pie.
She was an active member of the Reedley MB church where she was involved in sewing circle, teaching Sunday School and singing in the church choir.
Rozella is survived by her five children, daughter Carol Ediger and husband Dave, son Dennis and wife Colleen, son Loren and wife Cheryl, daughter Patti Heinrichs and husband Lyndon, and daughter Sandy Penner and husband Tim, twelve grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren with number 28 on the way.
She is also survived by one sister Louise Friesen and many nieces and nephews.
Remembrances may be made to Palm Village Living Legacy Fund in appreciation for the loving
care she received there.

Sanger
Ken was an enthusiastic sports fan. His favorite teams were Notre Dame, Boston Celtics, New York Yankees, Green Bay Packers, and most of all his Sanger Apaches. He was a dedicated and supportive fan of Sanger Apache Football for over sixty years. He contributed to local sports with his talents as a coach. Over the years he coached the Sanger Seals, Rotary Little League Baseball, and Sanger Cheyenne Football.
He is survived by Sue, his wife of 60 years; son, Michael & wife, Terri; daughter, Karen; sister, Virginia Wallace & husband, Wayne; sister-in-law, Joan Moglia; and many nephews and nieces. Ken loved his three grandchildren, Katie Dozier & husband, Sam, Emily and Brian; and his great-grandchildren, Kasen and Hunter.
As per Ken’s wishes, there will be no funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ken’s name to a charity of the donor’s choice.
