and is looking forward to the potential of the team.
“We have some younger guys who will have the oppor- tunity to step up,” Woods said. “We have a couple guys that are going to be able to step in and fill in the roles. We have put in our time and put in the work and now it is our turn.”
The Eagles are coming off winning their fourth straight Central Section Championship in 2016. They won the Division IV titles in 2015 and 2016, af- ter winning the Division V titles in 2013 and 2014.
The success has led the Central Section to bump the Eagles to Division III in 2017. That means a title may go through their league rivals Selma High School.
“That is a big rivalry for us and we are looking forward to that challenge,” Woods said. “That has been a big motivat- ing factor to not feel that de- feat again.”
Selma won the Central Sequoia League Champion- ship and Division III title in 2016 and returns most of their team.
Coach Woods knows the
challenge in his year at the helm for the Eagles will be a challenge but he is looking forward to it.
“I am excited. I feel very blessed to have a team that is this talented and this skilled,” Woods said. “I look forward to the opportunity to win league and continue the valley runs.
The Eagles will compete in the Father Berry Christ- mas Classic Thursday, Dec. 7 to Saturday, Dec. 9, at Jesuit High School in Carmichael.
They open the tourna- ment against St. Joseph Notre Dame High School.
Immanuel High will then play in the Hoover Invitation- al Tournament Wednesday, Dec. 13 to Saturday, Dec. 16, at Hoover High in Fresno.
IHS Girls Basketball
The Immanuel High Eagles girls basketball team opened their 2017 season on Dec. 5 hosting Edison High School. No score was avail- able at presstime.
The Eagles will play Si- erra Pacific High on Tuesday, Dec. 12 at Immanuel High.
They then will compete in the Madera Shoot-Out Wedens- day, Dec. 13 to Saturday, Dec. 16 at Madera High School.

On Dec. 2, the Pirates defeated Mt. Whitney High School 1-0, before losing 2-0 to Lemoore High.
They played Golden West High School on Dec. 5 and hosted Selma High School on Dec. 6. No scores were avail- able at presstime.
They will compete in the Peggy Renberg Tournament on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 8 and 9, at Hoover High School in Fresno.
Reedley High then will play Kingsburg High School on Wednesday, Dec. 13, at Kingsburg High School.

Zoe March, former Immanuel High basketball star, was named PacWest Conference Defensive Player of the Week for Nov. 27 to Dec. 3.
March, who is the starting point guard at Azusa Pacific University, helped the Cougars extend their winning streak to five games with home victories over Academy of Arts on Nov. 30 and Point Loma university on Dec. 2.
March had seven steals in the Cougars' win over Point Loma.
She also had five assists and no turnovers in the game to become the national leader in assists-to-turnover ratio.
March has 18 steals this season, which ranks sixth in the PacWest.

The Orange Cove High Titans boys and girls wres- tling teams were in action
over the last week.
The Titans boys wrestling
team defeated Woodlake High School 42-18 on Nov. 29 at Woodlake.
Armando De Dios, Robert Godinez, Jesus Medel and Wy- att Godding each earned wins for the Titans.
Carlos Serna and Basheer Hussin earned victories by decision, while Martin Chavez and Andres Tristen earned pin falls.
The boys team then com- peted in the Dos Palos Invita- tional on Dec. 1.
The Titans finished in eighth place.
Martin Chavez led the way for the Titans earning the top spot in his weight class.
Hussin took second place, while Tristen earned fourth place.
Medel took sixth in his weight class.
The Orange Cove High girls wrestling team com- peted in The Last Girl Stand- ing Tournament on Dec. 1 in Lemoore. Orange Cove placed eighth out of 22 teams.
Paola Juarez won her weight class, while Clarissa Alvarez earned a second-place finish. Elvira Leon took third place and Jasmine Ruiz had a fourth place finish in their weight divisions, respectively.

Emma Mulligan had two goals and one assist to lead the Pirates girls soccer team to a 4-1 season- opening victory over the Madera South High School Stallions on Nov. 21 at Sal Gonzalez Field. Mulligan then added two goals in the Pirates 5-1 victory over Dinuba High School on Nov. 29 at Sal Gonzalez Field.
