RHS girls beat Fresno

The Immanuel High Eagles volleyball team is now 2-3 in the Central Sequoia League follow- ing a 3-0 victory over Selma High on Sept. 18 and a 3-1 loss on Sept. 20 to Hanford West.
On Sept. 18 in Selma Im- manuel defeated Selma High. Set scores were 25-20,
25-21 and 25-21.
Danielle Jefferies had
nine kills, while MacKen- zie Coats had eight. Brooke Hatch and Jefferies each had
11 digs, while Olivia Barsoom and Hatch each had 13 assists. On Sept. 20, the Eagles
lost to Hanford West 3-1. Jefferies had 14 kills, while Coats had eight. Hatch had 18 digs, while Mikaela Mora had 14. Immanuel played Cen- tral Valley Christian on Sept. 24. No score was available at
presstime.
The Eagles play Kingsburg
High School Thursday, Sept. 25, in Kingsburg, before playing Exeter High School on Tuesday, Oct. 2, at Immanuel High.

It was a dominant per- formance for the Reedley High Pirates girls water polo team in their North Yosemite League opener.
The Pirates raced out to an 11-1 halftime lead and rolled to a 15-1 rout of the Fresno High School Warriors on Sept. 18 at the Reedley High Aquatics Complex.
The Pirates played McLane High School on Sept. 25. No score was available at presstime. They then will play Sunny- side High School on Thurs- day, Sept. 27 at the Reedley High Aquatics Complex.
On Sept. 18, Morgan Gates led the Pirates with four goals, while Abby Delport, Alina Hodges and Emily Clark each had two goals. Elise Thiesen had one.
Delport scored the first goal of the game with 5:18 remaining in the first pe- riod to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead.
Hodges then scored with 3:38 to go in the first period to extend the Reed- ley High lead to 2-0.
After a goal by Fresno High cut the Reedley High lead to 2-1, the Pirates an- swered with four goals in the final 1:30 of the period to hold a 6-1 lead.
Clark had to goals, while Thiesen and Gates had one.
Gates scored three goals in a row to open the second period to give the Pirates a 9-1 lead with 4:46 left before halftime.

Pirates fall to Panthers
Staff Report
The Reedley High Pirates football team fell behind 14-7 after the first quarter against Washington Union High School.
The Pirates were unable to recover and lost to the Panthers 35-13 on Sept. 21 in Easton.
Daniel Cortez had two rushing touchdowns for the Pirates.
Reedley High sits at 2-3 overall and will open North Yo- semite League play on Friday, Sept. 28 against Roosevelt High School at Sal Gonzalez Field.
Reedley High then will play McLane High School on Friday, Oct. 5 at Sal Gonzalez Field.
It will be Homecoming night for Reedley High School.
RHS Volleyball
The Reedley High Pirates
girls volleyball team opened defense of their North Yosem- ite League title with victories over Fresno High and Roos- evelt High Schools.
On Sept. 18, the Pirates defeated Fresno High 3-0 in Reedley.
Set scores were 25-5, 25-15 and 25-9.
On Sept. 20, Reedley High defeated Roosevelt High School 3-0 in Fresno.
Set scores were 25-7, 25-15 and 25-15.
As of Sept. 25, the Pirates were 22-4-1 overall and 2-0 in the NYL.
Reedley High played McLane High School on Sept. 25. No score was available at presstime.
The Pirates then play Sun- nyside High School on Thurs- day, Sept. 29 at Reedley High School, before playing Hoover High School on Tuesday, Oct. 2, in Fresno.

The Reedley High Pirates girls golf team played Roosevelt High School on Sept. 25. No score was avail- able at presstime.
The Pirates then will play McLane High School on Thursday, Sept. 27, at Sher- wood Country Club.
Reedley High plays Sun- nyside High School on Mon- day, Oct. 1, at Sherwood Golf Course.

Wood and Gurrola lead Eagles football past Aztecs 41-18
Derek Wood, Immanuel High senior, had 107 yards and two touchdowns in the Eagles win
over Mendota High on Sept. 21 in Mendota.
The Eagles defeated the Aztecs 41-18 to move to 3-3 overall.
Immanuel has a bye on Sept.
29 and will play Liberty High School on Friday, Oct. 5 at the Immanuel Sports Complex.

The Immanuel High Ea- gles football team moved to 3-3 overall following a 41-18 win over the Mendota High Aztecs on Sept. 21 in Mendota.
Immanuel has a bye on Sept. 28. They will play Lib- erty High School of Madera on Friday, Oct. 5, at the Im- manuel Sports Complex. It will be the final home game for the Eagles and Homecom- ing night.
On Sept. 21, Derek Wood led the Eagles with seven car- ries for 104 yards and two touchdowns. Chris Gurrola had eight carries for 72 yards and one touchdown, while Matt Tiger had nine carries for 83 yards and two touch- downs.
Tigers also had one pass- ing touchdown.
After taking a 20-12 lead after the first quarter, the Ea- gles outscored the Aztecs 21-6 over the final three quarters.
Immanuel took an early 8-0 lead with eight minutes left in the first quarter when Tiger scored on a 1-yard touchdown. Wood added the two-point conversion.
After Mendota scored to cut the Immanuel lead to 8-6, Tiger scored on a 65-yard touchdown run to give Im- manuel a 14-6 lead.
The Aztecs scored with one minute left in the first quarter to cut the Eagles lead to 14-12.
Wood answered right back for Immanuel and scored on a 49-yard touchdown run to
increase the Immanuel lead to 20-12 after the first quarter. Gurrola ran for a 1-yard touchdown with four minutes left in the first half to give Im-
manuel a 27-12 lead.
Wood added his second
touchdown with a 9-yard rushing touchdown early in the third quarter to make it 34-12 at halftime.
Mendota scored in the third quarter to cut the Im- manuel lead to 34-18.
In the fourth quarter, Ti- ger connected with Gurrola on a 70-yard touchdown pass to give the Eagles a 41-18 win.
