Julia Jimenez, Reedley Col- lege Tigers softball infielder, proved why she was deserving of her selection to the California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association All-State First Team.

Reedley High's Stepha- nie Castro's dominanted on the softball mound against McLane High May 4, helping the Pirates inch closer to a third straight North Yosemite League title.
Castro pitched a complete game to lead the Pirates to a 7-0 victory over the Highland- ers at Reedley High School.
The win improved Reed- ley High to 7-1 in the NYL, one game ahead of Fresno High with two games left in the regular season.
As of May 8, Reedley was 18-7-1 overall.
Reedley High played second-place Fresno High on May 8 in Fresno.
No score was available at presstime.
With a win, the Pirates would clinch at least a share of their third straight NYL title and fifth title in six years.
A full report of the Pirates game against Fresno High will be published in the May 17 edition of The Exponent.
The Pirates were coming off a 9-5 win over Roosevelt High on May 1 in Fresno.
No statistics were avail- able for the game against Roosevelt.
On May 4, Aryanna Gonza- lez had three RBIs, while Ce- cilia Mulligan had two RBIs.
The Pirates end the regu- lar season on Thursday, May 10, hosting Hoover High School.

RC's hoops Martin headed to Holy Names University
Gerniah Martin, Reedley College Tigers women's basket- ball player, signed a national letter of intent to play for Holy Names University in Oakland.
Martin signed to play for the Hawks during a ceremony on May 7 at Reedly College.
Martin played two seasons for the Tigers.

Gernijah Martin, Reedley College Tigers women's bas- ketball player, thought her basketball career was over af- ter tearing her ACL following her senior year in 2015 at Roo- sevelt High School in Fresno.
That's when Dan Kilbert, Reedley College head coach, came calling and offered Martin the chance to continue playing basketball.
Martin took that opportu- nity and is excelling.
“After high school I tore my ACL and Reedley College and the coaching staff gave me the opportunity to contin- ue and further my career af- ter I recovered,” Martin said. “They believed I could do it. I am thankful I got the opportu- nity to play here. It got me to where I needed to be.”
On May 7, she signed a let-
ter of intent to attend Division II Holy Names University in Oakland.
Martin - who is known as Nay Nay - was joined by her family, friends, coaches and former teammates for the cer- emony in the student center at Reedley College.
“Holy Names has one of the better psychology de- partments and they gave me a great offer,” Martin said. “When I took my visit, I bond- ed with the coaches and play- ers. That is what made me choose to attend Holy Names.”
Martin played for Reedley College the past two seasons.
She played 26 games for the Tigers during the 2017-18 season, averaging 11.7 points and 9.8 rebounds per game.

Reedley High names Athletes of Month for April

Reedley High School re- cently announced that Daw- son Javaux and Julie Scott and Destiny Renteria are the Male and Female Athletes of the Month for April.
Information was provided by Reedley High School.
Dawson Javaux
Dawson Javaux, Reedley High Pirates tennis player, was chosen the North Yosem- ite League Player of the Year.
Javaux went 10-0 in the NYL and helped lead the Pi- rates to a 15-4 overall record and second-place finish in the NYL.
Javaux was the No. 1 singles player for Reedley High in his third year on the varsity team.
He currently has a 4.2
GPA.
The Pirates, who earned a
No. 7 seed in the Division III playoffs, played No. 2 seed Delano High on May 8.

Julie Scott and Destiny Renteria
Julie Scott and Destiny Renteria, Reedley High Pi- rates badminton players, won the North Yosemite League doubles championship.
Scott and Renteria com- bined to go 14-2 in the NYL.
The duo helped lead the Pirates badminton team to a North Yosemite League Championship in 2018. It is the second straight title for the Pirates.
